Take a look at the screen at your local coffee shop. In the morning, it might show breakfast and coffee; by lunchtime, the menu has changed, and later you might spot a special offer.
It makes sense. What you want to see from a screen often depends on where you are, what you’re doing, and even what time it is. That’s a useful way to think about your own screens, too.
Share the information people actually need
Some of the best screen content is also the simplest.Â
In an office, that could be company news, an upcoming event, or a reminder everyone needs to see. In a hotel, guests might appreciate breakfast hours, Wi-Fi information, or tomorrow’s weather. In a school, it could be a schedule change or a reminder about an upcoming activity.
A good place to start is with the questions people already ask you. If visitors regularly need directions or customers keep asking about opening hours, why not put the answer where they can easily see it?
Show what matters right now
One of the advantages of digital signage is that your screens don’t need to show the same content from morning to night.
A café can switch from breakfast to lunch specials around noon. A gym might highlight an evening class as the workday ends, while a store could give more space to a new arrival or a weekend offer.
There’s no need to fit everything onto one screen. A few relevant messages are much easier to notice and understand.
Give people a reason to look again
When people walk past the same screen every day, they’ll eventually stop noticing it if nothing ever changes.
Keeping things fresh doesn’t mean creating something new every morning. You can mix in customer reviews, social posts, upcoming events, company milestones, weather, traffic, or a countdown to something everyone’s looking forward to.
And don’t feel that everything needs to look like a campaign. A photo from yesterday’s team lunch might get more attention in the office than a polished announcement, simply because people recognize the faces on the screen.
Make waiting time a little more useful
We all spend time waiting: at reception, in a clinic, in a hotel lobby, or standing in a queue. So why not make that time a little more useful?
A clinic could answer common questions before an appointment. A university could show what’s happening around campus that week, while a car dealership might share a few simple car maintenance tips.
Not every message has to sell something. Sometimes helping someone find an answer, learn something new, or simply pass the time is enough.
Celebrate your people
Your screens can also reflect the people behind your business.
Welcome a new colleague, celebrate a work anniversary, congratulate a team on hitting a goal, or share a customer review that made everyone smile. It’s an easy way to make workplace screens feel more connected to what’s actually happening in the business.
And if someone brings their dog to the office and you get a great photo, we’d say that deserves some screen time too.
Give people a next step
Sometimes you want people to do more than just look. Maybe you want them to book a table, sign up for an event, leave feedback, or see the full menu.
A QR code makes that easy. Just tell people what they’ll get when they scan it: “Scan to book your spot” is much more inviting than “Scan here.”
💬 What’s working on your screens?
There’s no perfect digital signage playlist. What works in a coffee shop might not work in an office, hotel, school, or warehouse.
So try things out. See what people notice, and change things when they start to feel stale.Â
And if you’ve found something that really works, share it in the Yodeck Community.
We’d love to see what’s on your screens, and your idea might be exactly what another Yodeck user has been looking for!
